Module 1: "Improving competitiveness of SMEs in the innovation economy"

Mr. Aleardo Furlani - CEO, INNOVA, Italy, INSME Board member

Today it is much more important to consider "how" to innovate, and not only "what" to innovate. Here is the importance of organisational and also the social innovation: new business approaches, reshaped organisations, original business models, constellations or professional, networks of enterprises, but - mostly- to the informal( "weak") ties linking the connected people through the social networks. In fact, the Social Networks are going to change the way people behave and the innovation economy is creating value.

Module 2: "Managing SMEs innovation portfolio during the economic crises"

Mr. Raimund Broechler - Senior Delivery Manager, INTRASOFT International, INSME Vice President

Access to information has never been easier than nowadays, but does this automatically mean that SMEs are getting more competitive as they have better access to technologies broadcasted via Web Pages? How can SMEs handle this “BIG DATA” issue; finding the right information at the right time? How and where can intermediaries help to structure information for SMEs? Who are those intermediaries and what can they expect when using these services?  Module 2 will give the possibility to get an answer to the questions raised above and especially guide the participants how
they use the tools, in which situation depending on their actual situation.

13:00

Lunch & Networking

14:00
15:30

Module 3: "Innovation ecosystem for knowledge-based SMEs - Science and Technology Park"

Mr. Oh, Deog-Seong - Secretary General of the World Technopolis Association

In a recent knowledge-based economy, science and technology park (STP) is a regional innovation strategy that generates sustained and propulsive economic activities through the creation and commercialization of new knowledge. These science parks are critical ingredients for successful 'knowledge-based economy' as well as they are instruments for such innovation-oriented regional policies. With this context, it is much more important to establish an innovation ecosystem for knowledge-based SMEs in STPs. However, most important issues are how effectively a science park can play its role for stimulating technology-led SMEs. It is necessary to be shifted from a linear model to a collaborative model of R & BD based on a triple helix of university-industry-government relations.

Module 4: "Innovation policy to facilitate the development of the knowledge-based SMEs"

Mr. Yoslan Nur - Programme Specialist, UNESCO

The module will focus on the role of government, through its innovation policy, in promoting the creation of knowledge-based SMEs. Special emphasize will be given to the support of government on the development of the innovation platforms such as, science parks and technology business incubators. An efficient innovation policy can address both macro and micro climate of the innovation ecosystem. The Government can help startup companies in overcoming financial problem which is their major challenges. How to acquire the proper funding for conducting research and development (R&D) and ensuring the operational cost of the company? The Government can reduce obstacles to innovation and strengthen the competiveness of the SMEs.  The government can help the startup companies in developing their capacity by training and mentoring in any aspect of SMEs governance.
